After the break out #1 best seller Wild by Cheryl Strayed hit stands in early 2012, a whole new world of outdoor sporting was introduced. It resonated with both people who had always dreamed of the kind of big adventure she embarked on and those who were already seasoned hikers and outdoors-men.
Aiming to “help establish and be a part of an online community of like minded people who fall in to the same niche category of outdoor enthusiasts” Wild Ridge Outdoors set off on an adventure of their own, launching a custom Volusion Store Design geared towards “campers, hikers, backpackers and day trippers who balance a love of the natural world with a passion for self reliance and preparedness.”
With a rugged motif in tow, the backdrop pulls in highly thematic elevation maps, which any hiker is sure to recognize. Along with account information in the top right corner, our designers have included social media plug ins inviting campers to stay connected even when they’re not actively shopping.
A custom search bar sits atop the main navigation menu which is home to contact and company information, blogs and forums as well as resources.
Next to the storefront’s hi-res welcome message, a list of vertical store category links occupy the left sidebar inviting customers to begin shopping.
As the written sprawl of categories continues, a 3 X 2 spread of the store’s most popular groupings such as food, water, and first aid sit in the high-traffic midsection.
Below, eight ‘featured product’ panes prominently display highly sought after or seasonal merchandise which avid hikers might find of particular interest.
Wrapping up the left sidebar panel is a list of accepted payment methods along with an authorize net verification so customers can be sure their purchases, and bank accounts, are in the hands of true professionals. It’s also a cinch for shoppers to join the newsletter by entering their email addresses in the field below.
Finally, a custom footer closes the shop design. Four vertical tabs of company info, customer account options, site maps and customer service links help shoppers navigate all the way through the end.
